Liv O’Donoghue’s latest work, With raised arms, explores the realms of the self-portrait, spanning concepts of herself as an artist, as a citizen and as an everywoman of contemporary Ireland. Embracing ideas of selfhood, sexuality and choice, the work considers the strange rationale of politics in the status quo. Through the cynicism of inaction and non-choice, questions of the artist (or woman) as commodity arise, in a work which is both bold and visually arresting.
