What a year it’s been! As well as keeping busy at home in Dublin, I’ve been racking up my frequent flyer miles with trips to Portugal, Norway, Germany, Brazil, Croatia and Austria to name just a few. As an Associate Artist of Dance Ireland, plenty of exciting opportunities presented themselves throughout the year. In May, I was thrilled to be able to perform my work Prompted Breathless as part of the Dublin Dance Festival for the first time, followed by a trip to Latvia in June where we presented TEN as part of the Laiks Dejot Festival supported by E-Motional Bodies and Cities. During the summer, I invited to be part of Act Your Age, a European project which led to some very inspiring research trips to Italy and Cyprus, through which I met some amazing artists who I hope to see more of in the coming year. With support from the Arts Council, I began research for a new work Hear me sing your song in November which will keep me busy in 2013, being presented for the first time in January as part of Dance Ireland’s mini-festival Made in Dublin, before it tours to Austria and Italy with the support of Culture Ireland in February. As a Modul-dance Carte Blanche artist I finished out the year with a residency at TanzQuartier in Vienna, a very inspiring week of classes, research and eating cake!
As well as all of my own work, it’s been great to continue with Liz Roche Company, creating a brand new work under the watchful eye of the Sky Arts documentary crew, as well as touring an older work Fast Portraits as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Tanzmesse in Dusseldorf. In October, we had fun reviving junk ensemble’s Bird with Boy for the Dublin Theatre Festival, while in December it was brilliant to perform for the first time with John Scott’s Irish Modern Dance Theatre in a new work by acclaimed New York choreographer Kyle Abraham.
Altogether it’s been a fantastic year supported by the Arts Council, Culture Ireland, Dance Ireland, Modul-dance and Project Arts Centre, with special thanks to Paul Johnson, Sian Cunningham, Elisabetta Bisaro, Inga Byrne, Davide Terlingo, Victoria O’Brien, Madeline Boughton, Cian O’Brien, Lian Bell, Niamh O’Donnell, Luca Truffarelli, Enrico Fuga, Julia Carruthers, Ellie Creighton, Tiina Ylonen, Stpehanie Dickenson, Roberto Cassarotto, Liz King, Natasa Georgiou, Wendy Houstoun, Vincent Wijlhuizen, Peggy Olislaegers, Ilze Zirina, Katherine O’Malley, Philip Connaughton, Liz Roche, John Scott, Kyle Abraham, Bryan O’Connell, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Megan Kennedy, Jessica Kennedy, Jo Timmins, Tom Lane, Maria Nilsson Waller, Clare Brzezicki and Abigail Kessel Massei.
